Apple will repair faulty speakers iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro for free

Apple has set up a service program for “no-sound issues” in certain iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices, where the speaker produces no sound during phone calls. The company will repair these problems free of charge.

The Apple support page states that “a small percentage” of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models are experiencing the speaker issues. The affected devices were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021. The problem would be caused by a component that could fail in the ‘receiver module’. Apple is going to fix related problems. The iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max are not part of the service program.

Apple offers free speaker repairs for up to two years from the date of sale of a device. Users can send their smartphone to Apple, drop it off at a company retail store, or take it to an authorized service provider for repair.

If a device has “any damage that would interfere with its ability to complete the repair,” such as a cracked screen, then that issue must be resolved before the speaker is repaired. That is not always covered by the free repairs.
