Snapchat today announced the release of Lens Studio 3.2, which allows you to create augmented reality LiDAR-like lenses for the new iPhone 12 Pro.
The LiDAR Scanner on iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max allows for immersive augmented reality experiences that adapt more seamlessly to the real world. At the same time it allows the Snapchat camera to create a metric-scaled mesh of the location, thus understanding the geometry and meaning of surfaces and objects. This new level of understanding of the environment allows the Lenses to realistically interact with the world around them. Thanks to the power of A14 Bionic and ARKit, thousands of augmented reality objects can be played in real time, thus creating immersive and magical environments for the entire Snapchat community to experience.
“The addition of LiDAR Scanner to iPhone 12 Pro models will enable a new level of creativity for augmented reality,” stated Eitan Pilipski, SVP of Camera Platform at Snap. “We are delighted to partner with Apple to introduce this sophisticated technology from Lens Creators to our community.”
Through a new interactive preview mode in Lens Studio 3.2, users will be able to create Lenses and preview them in the real world, even before they can purchase the new iPhone 12 Pro. Snapchat will also be usable on the latest iPad Pro model to activate the LiDAR lenses.
Snap welcomes the next generation of Augmented Reality technology, where the digital world is getting closer and closer to the physical world. We can’t wait to see what users will create with Lens Studio 3.2!
