British newspaper The Guardian possibly hit by ransomware attack

The Guardian reports that an IT incident has occurred. The British newspaper suspects that it is a ransomware attack. The network is down and part of the internal systems have been affected by the incident.

The incident occurred on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday , according to The Guardian . Newspaper employees have to work from home. The newspaper expects that Thursday’s paper newspaper can be printed as usual.

According to The Guardian Media Group director, Anna Bateson, it is not yet certain that it is a ransomware attack: “An IT incident has occurred that affects our IT network and systems. We believe that it is about a ransomware attack, but keep other options open”.

The newspaper was able to report news on its site on Wednesday. The system for publishing articles is not affected. The employees of the newspaper have been asked to work from home for the rest of the week. A note circulated to staff and viewed by the Financial Times urges employees not to use the VPN. Employees who work from the editorial office cannot use the WiFi.
