YouTube will stop temporary Stories videos on June 26

YouTube will stop Stories on June 26, videos that were visible for up to seven days and then disappeared. The platform says it wants to focus more on other forms of content, such as regular videos and Shorts.

From June 26 content creators can no longer upload Stories themselves, already uploaded Stories will remain online for another seven days. At the beginning of July, the function will therefore disappear completely from YouTube. “While Stories are moving away, we’ve seen that both Community posts and YouTube Shorts are good alternatives that can provide valuable connections and conversations with audiences,” YouTube writes.

The platform also points out that Community posts received on average more comments and likes than Stories. Shorts again generated ‘much more’ subscribers than Stories, says the platform itself. It therefore seems that the Stories videos were not successful or popular enough for YouTube and that is why they are being deleted.

The company announced Stories in late 2017, when they were still called Reels. Stories allow content creators to upload short vertical videos that can be seen for up to a week. The videos can therefore be compared to, for example, Snapchat videos. Stories can only be used by content creators with more than ten thousand subscribers.
