KPN connected 544,000 households to fiber last year

KPN connected a record number of 544,000 households to its fiber optic network last year. The telecom provider reports this at the presentation of its annual figures. The company added a total of 163,000 fiber optic subscribers last year.

Just like last year, the telecom provider talks about a record number of new fiber connections in 2022. According to KPN, a total of 3.71 million households are connected to the company’s fiber optic network and that of Glaspoort, a joint venture of KPN and pension fund APG. This currently concerns 47 percent of all households in the Netherlands. The company expects that by the end of 2026, approximately 80 percent of Dutch households will be connected to its fiber optic network.

At the end of 2022, there were 1,863,000 activated fiber optic connections on KPN’s network. That’s an increase of 219,000 from last year, when the company recorded 1,644,000 activated connections. According to KPN, this has resulted in 163,000 new fiber subscriptions in 2022. The provider invested a total of 377 million euros in the roll-out of fiber last year.

KPN’s annual turnover amounted to 5.3 billion euros. That is an increase of 1.4 percent compared to 2021. According to the NOS, this is the first increase in KPN’s annual turnover since 2008. The turnover growth mainly comes from business customers, whose turnover in the past year grew by more than 2 percent. Turnover from mobile subscriptions will also increase in 2022.

However, the provider’s net profit fell by 40 percent to 766 million euros last year. In 2021, however, the profit was higher due to a one-off book profit, originating from transactions around Glaspoort. Without those book profits, profit this year would have been 101 million euros higher than in 2021, the provider claims.
