Google Translate is getting more extensive contextual options for translating texts. Specifically, these are words that can have multiple meanings. For the correct translation of those words, the app takes into account the context of the text to be translated.
Google Translate will give more context to translate words or sentences starting this month. The company gives an example of the English word ‘novel’. In English it can stand for a novel, but it can also mean something original or new. The app provides examples of this, including explanations, so that the correct translation can be used.
This extension will be available in the coming weeks for the languages English, French, German, Japan and Spanish. Other languages will also be supported in the coming months, although it is not clear which languages will be affected and when this will take place.
Google will also be redesigning the iOS version of Implementing Google Translate, after the Android version was previously only given a new design. The field for typing texts will be enlarged and elements such as voice input and the translations via Lens should be more accessible.
