Hello Games releases the Fractal update for No Man’s Sky, with PS VR2 headset support being the biggest addition. Its arrival was previously announced. The game will also receive a new expedition, support for gyroscopic controls and other features.
The Fractal Update released on Wednesday and will be the first major No Man’s Sky update of 2023. PS5 players will be able to play the game in full with Sony’s new PS VR2 headset after the update. The VR mode works with that headset at a maximum of ‘a 4k resolution’. Players can also use the Sense controllers to control starships and use their multi-tool. Developer Hello Games previously confirmed that No Man’s Sky would receive PS VR2 support.
In addition, the space game will receive several new features, which will also be available on other platforms. For example, the game is getting a new Utopia expedition, which should be playable soon. The new expedition is set in the Bakkin solar system. Due to abnormal solar activity, things can’t be made there outside of a base. However, the Utopia Foundation is coordinating a major reconstruction project, which players can join. In the expedition, players can unlock a new Utopia Speeder spaceship, among other things.
The game also receives support for gyroscopic controls on the PlayStation, Switch and Steam Deck. This allows players to move their controller or handheld to aim their multi-tool. The Switch version of the game also gets access to all Nexus and Quicksilver missions from No Man’s Sky. There’s also a new Wonders catalog that captures players’ most notable discoveries, says Hello Games. The game will also receive improved HDR rendering. The PS5 version of the game will support AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 upscaling technique. This renders the game at a lower resolution and then upscales it to a higher resolution. That should lead to higher frame rates without much loss of quality.
