Twitter is reportedly planning to give the gold check for free to the 10,000 most followed companies and 500 largest advertisers. This is evident from internal documents that The New York Times has seen. Normally that check should cost a thousand dollars a month.
These are the 10,000 most followed companies that have already been verified, The New York Times clarifies . The reason for this exception is not stated. It is also not clear whether these companies and the 500 largest advertisers will automatically receive a golden check mark, or whether they will have to apply for it first. Companies that purchase such a check mark are verified manually.
Twitter’s plan to charge companies $1,000 for the gold check was leaked in February by a report by The Information. From March it will be possible for companies to sign up for the Twitter Verified Organizations plan. The golden check mark can already be seen in a number of accounts, including those of Twitter itself. In addition to the thousand dollars, the social medium also asks fifty dollars for verification checks of related accounts. Businesses that don’t pay will automatically lose their verification check.
