Apple will invest a billion euros in its German chip design activities in Munich over the next six years. This amount comes on top of the investment of one billion euros promised in 2021. In Munich, Apple’s Mac socks are being worked on, among other things.
With the investment, Apple wants to start three new R&D locations in Munich, which should, among other things, ensure that the more than two thousand Apple engineers in the region can work together better. The three new locations will be close to each other, near a recently opened location and close to the Technical University of Munich. Apple says it cooperates a lot with this university.
Munich is the European headquarters of Apple’s European Silicon Design Center and helps develop Apple’s Mac socs. Apple specifically mentions the M2 Pro and M2 Max socs, to which the German hub contributed. In addition, this German department is working on new techniques within wireless connection technology and energy management.
