Baidu has presented Ernie Bot, a generative AI chatbot that uses a language model developed by Baidu and should provide a Chinese alternative to ChatGPT-based chatbots, for example. Ernie Bot can only be used by invitation for the time being.
During the presentation, Baidu showed five tasks that Ernie Bot could perform, writes TechCrunch, among others . For example, the chatbot must be able to help you write books and come up with a company name, or solve mathematical puzzles. In addition, Ernie Bot could write poems.
During the presentation, Ernie Bot mainly distinguished itself with multimodal tasks, in which the chatbot can generate an image based on an answer that the chatbot itself gave. Not all chatbots can perform such multimodal tasks. Ernie Bot can also handle dialects.
What was also striking about the presentation is that the Ernie Bot parts were pre-recorded and so there was no live demonstration. Ernie Bot is also not widely available, being invited and waiting list only. The company has also made an API available. The company has told Reuters that 650 companies want to join “the Ernie ecosystem.”
