Customers purchase fewer services from Telenet due to the decline in TV and telephony

Customers purchased on average slightly fewer services from the Belgian provider Telenet in 2022 than in 2021, according to the provider’s annual and quarterly figures. Where the number averaged 2.26 services in 2021, this fell to 2.21 services per customer last year.

This is mainly due to the decline in cable television and fixed telephony, says Telenet. Interest in those services “continues to shrink due to the current macroeconomic environment and changing consumer preferences.” Customers did spend more at Telenet. The average subscription price per customer increased from EUR 59.10 in 2021 to EUR 59.40 in 2022.

The number of customers combining fixed and mobile services is increasing. There are now 823,500, 10 percent more than a year earlier. This means that a minority of customers combine fixed and mobile services, as there are 1.7 million fixed internet customers and 2.94 million mobile customers. Those numbers hardly changed last year.

Turnover increased by 3 percent to 2.66 billion euros. Net profit rose sharply to EUR 997 million. This is mainly due to the sale of TowerCo. The increase in turnover was mainly due to the price increase for customers from last summer, the company says.
