IGN: Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony will not be attending E3 this year

Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony will not be present at E3 in Los Angeles this year, insiders report to IGN. The game fair returns as a physical event for the first time since 2019. The three console makers did not respond to the request for comment.

The three console makers will not be part of E3 2023 nor will they be present on the show floor at the LA Convention Center, writes IGN. Sony has not been a participant in the game fair since 2019, but the other two console manufacturers were previously present. Nintendo has been holding its own Direct presentations for some time now, but usually had a booth at E3. Xbox is traditionally also present at the fair. That company said earlier this month that it would hold a showcase in Los Angeles in the summer, though the company didn’t specifically say it would take place at E3.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer previously told IGN that presentation would take place at a time “convenient for the press and consumers’. The Xbox presentation is therefore likely to coincide with the dates of E3, which will take place between June 13 and 16. Spencer highlighted Xbox’s support for E3 and Entertainment Software Association, the organization behind the event. The concrete plans for the Xbox showcase this summer are not yet known.

E3 returns this summer for the first time in years back as a physical event. This year the fair is organized together with the ESA with ReedPop, the organizer behind PAX, among others. E3 was last physically held in the summer of 2019. In 2020 and 2022 the fair was completely canceled, while in 2021 only an online variant was held. Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony did not respond to IGN’s questions.
