Instagram releases Notes feature in Europe

Social media platform Instagram is releasing its Notes feature in the Netherlands, Belgium and the rest of Europe. Notes will also be released in Japan. The option is in the DM section of the app and has been available in the rest of the world since December.

According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri , users in Europe will receive the feature later, because the company first wanted to ensure that it would comply with regulations. Mosseri does not say what rules those are. The feature came out in other parts of the world in December.

Notes are like Stories in DMs. They are small messages that end up at the top of the inbox and for which Instagram does not give a notification. Notes, like Stories, last for 24 hours and Instagram displays it with circular profile images with the text of the Note above it.

Entering Notes also goes into the DMs page and the button to create a Note is between the search bar and the regular posts. Contacts can comment on Notes and those comments will end up in DMs just like Stories.
