The Dutch National Cyber Security Center has published a Wall of Fame in which cyber security researchers who came up with the best responsible disclosure reports in the past year are honored.
According to the NCSC there will be more than 2500 CVD reports in 2022 at the national government, from which the six cyber security researchers with ‘the best reports’ have now been selected: Chester van den Bogaard, Ibrahim Durmus, Ivan Iushkevich, Kenny Hietbrink, Oussama Kasmi and Ramon Dunker. The organization Dutch Institute of Vulnerability Disclosure is also included in the hall of honor.
Three quality requirements were taken into account for the selection. Firstly, the report in question had to ‘have had a major impact on the digital security of the Netherlands’. The quality of the reporting in the report also had to be good, and if the researcher made several reports, the percentage of ‘good and qualitative reports had to be high’, according to the NSCS. This is the first time that the cybersecurity organization has published a wall of fame, but it is intended to be repeated every year from now on.
Responsibledisclosure reports, or Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure reports, are often done by ethical hackers. These mean that when they find a vulnerability in a system, they first report this to the organization concerned. This way it has time to fix the bug, before someone with malicious intentions discovers the same vulnerability and may cause a lot of damage.
