Nokia introduces ‘sustainable’ G22 smartphone for 199 euros

HMD Global introduces the Nokia G22 for 199 euros. The smartphone contains a screen, battery and USB-C charging port that are easier to replace and therefore more durable. The company entered into a partnership with iFixit for this. Nokia also introduces the C32. This smartphone costs 149 euros.

The display, the battery and the USB-C charging port of the Nokia G22 can be replaced without special equipment, according to HMD Global. Tools and repair manuals are needed and the company will offer them in collaboration with iFixit. The G22 also contains a back that, according to the company, is made from 100 percent recycled plastic.

The smartphone runs on a Unisoc T606 soc and comes with 4GB of UFS 2.2 RAM as standard. The device runs on Android 12 and Nokia promises two upgrades of the operating system and three years of security updates. The smartphone also comes with an extended three-year warranty. The standard version comes with 64GB of storage, but there will also be a version with 128GB of storage. It will be offered for sale as standard in the Netherlands.

This storage space can be expanded with a microSD card of up to 2TB. The device has a 6.5” display with a resolution of 720×1600 pixels. The display has a refresh rate of 90Hz. The G22 packs a rear camera with a 50-megapixel sensor. There is also a 2MP camera with a macro lens and a 2MP camera that records depth information to support the main camera. The selfie camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels.

The smartphone comes with a 5050mAh battery that should be easier to replace compared to other smartphones. The battery also supports fast charging with 20W and can be charged via a USB-C port. A 3.5mm jack is also provided. The device received an IP52 rating from the manufacturer. This means that the smartphone is splash-proof. The G22 is for sale in the Netherlands from today for 199 euros. For that price, customers get the version with 128GB of storage space. The device will be available in two colours: blue and grey.
