Qualcomm has informed XDA, among others, that the upcoming version of Wear OS can run on the Snapdragon Wear 3100, 4100 and 4100+. No smartwatch has yet been confirmed whether it will receive the new Wear OS, so compatibility is still an issue.
Qualcomm is the first party to its statement provides information about existing or smartwatch platforms get the new Wear OS or not. Neither Google nor watchmakers have made any statements about an upgrade to the new Wear OS. The only exception to this is Fossil; who stated that its existing models will not be upgraded. However, Fossil’s most recent models run on the Snapdragon Wear 3100, which Qualcomm says means they could technically get the upgrade.
Google did respond to XDA’s statement in response to Qualcomm’s statement: “We do not confirm the compatibility or upgrade timeline of any Wear OS smartwatch. There are many technical requirements to run a unified platform and to ensure that all components are optimally equipped. to work”. In this, however, Google does not seem to contradict Qualcomm: Qualcomm is talking about socs and Google about specific models.
The new Wear OS will be a collaboration between Fitbit, Samsung and Google. The OS must become faster, with a larger ecosystem of apps and hardware.
