‘TikTok threatens employees working from home with punishment and dismissal’

Social medium TikTok has threatened employees who work full-time from home with dismissal, The Information reports. That site received an internal memo. If employees live too far from an office, they risk losing their job.

It only concerns employees who work in the US, notifies The Information. The memo on Lark’s internal system warns them to update their home address to one close enough to an office to visit regularly. If they fail to do so, a penalty awaits, which can lead to dismissal, the company warns, according to the memo. TikTok and parent company ByteDance have not yet responded.

TikTok has been trying to limit employees working from home for some time. After the pandemic, it has determined that employees must be in the office for at least two days a week. TikTok’s steps are no exception in the tech industry. After the end of the acute phase of the pandemic, many companies, including Twitter, Snap and Apple, required employees to return to work at least part of the time. Google and Uber have also done that.
