Twitter will start sharing ad revenue with Twitter Blue subscribers starting Friday, says CEO Elon Musk. It concerns the advertisements that can be placed between the comments under tweets. It is not clear how much Blue subscribers can earn with this.
When users click on a tweet, they are presented with an overview of responses to that tweet. Some of those comments or comment threads contain advertisements. According to Musk, if the original tweet was posted by a Twitter Blue subscriber, that subscriber will get a share “starting today” of advertising revenues.
It is not clear how many Blue subscribers receive per advertisement and what the amount depends on. Presumably this amount depends on the number of people who see the tweet, with the caveat that Blue subscribers see fewer ads than users without a subscription. Incidentally, Twitter is also working on an ad-free subscription. Apart from Musk’s two tweets, Twitter has not yet announced anything about the plan.
Twitter Blue costs $8 per month and is not yet for sale in the Netherlands or Belgium. In addition to fewer ads and the opportunity to monetize them, subscribers get a blue check mark and the ability to edit tweets and upload longer 1080p videos.
