Kioxia is going to introduce a new SSD line: the BG6. Compared to the predecessor, the speed and maximum capacity have approximately doubled, while the 2230 form factor is still an option.
The BG6- series provides up to 6000MB/s sequential read and 5300MB/s sequential write. In terms of random reading and writing, the SSDs reach 850,000 and 900,000 I/O operations per second, respectively. These specifications refer to the 2TB model within this new series; the 1TB model has slightly more modest specs in certain areas, but it doesn’t make much difference. Kioxia has not yet announced specifications for the 512GB and 256GB models. Predecessor BG5 hits about half of those specs or slightly more . The company attributes the increased speeds to the sixth-generation BiCS Flash 3D memory.
Kioxia thus becomes one of the few SSD providers that will offer a 2TB variant in the 2230 form factor. There is not a single SSD with those specifications in the Pricewatch, but Western Digital already offers the PC SN740. The form factor is getting a bit more attention since the introduction of the Steam Deck. That handheld only accommodates SSDs in that size.
Kioxia speaks in its announcement no release date or price yet. It just says that the first samples should be in the hands of OEMs in the second half of this year.
